How to Recheck CBSE Paper – A Complete Guide for Class 12 Students

How to Recheck CBSE Paper

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a nationally recognized educational board in India. It conducts examinations for Classes 10 and 12. Despite the stringent checking methods, students are often sceptical about their CBSE results and may wish to verify them.

CBSE provides students of Class 10th and 12th the option to request for recheck or re-evaluation if they are not happy with their CBSE results. It is essential to remember that the CBSE re-evaluation process may, however, increase, decrease or not change the marks obtained.

In this blog, we will offer a comprehensive guide on the requisition process for paper rechecking, particularly for Class 12 students.

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Before applying for rechecking of any paper, ensure that you are eligible to apply for a recheck process.

  • The rechecking option is available only for certain subjects as specified by CBSE. CBSE allows for the re-evaluation of only English Core, Hindi Core, Hindi Elective, English Elective (CBSE), English Elective (NCERT), Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Business Studies, Economics, and Accountancy.
  • Students can apply for rechecking of theory papers only and not of practical exams.
  • Candidates applying for verification of marks will only be eligible to apply to get a photocopy of the answer sheet.
  • Candidates who have got a photocopy of the answer sheet will only be eligible to apply for a re-evaluation.

Step 2: Check the deadline

It is important to check the CBSE website for the deadlines CBSE has give for applying for rechecking. Apply within the deadlines to be considered for re-evaluation.

Step 3: Follow the 3-step process

The process of re-evaluations is divided into three main steps:

1) Verification of marks

2) Obtain a Photocopy of the evaluated answer sheet

3) Re-evaluation of answers

The candidate cannot directly challenge the board to re-evaluate/recheck the answers. The above three steps have to be followed in order.

  1. Verification of marks
  2. Verification of marks is the process where the evaluator checks

    • if all the answers in the answer sheet were evaluated or not
    • if there has been no mistake in totalling the marks.
    • Any additional sheets used by the candidate are intact or not and have been evaluated or not.

Based on these checks the marks of the candidate could increase or decrease. After verifying marks, if the students still wish to challenge the board, they have the option to get a copy of the answer sheet.

    Applying for verification of marks

    1. Visit the application portal for CBSE and click on the Main website.
    2. Look for the “Apply for Verification of Marks” tab
    3. The online application will open to fill in all the details correctly
    4. After entering all the details, click on the “Submit” button
    5. Pay the fees via a payment gateway or an e-challan.

The following information is typically required in the application form:

    • Your name
    • Roll number
    • Subject codes for which you wish to apply for rechecking
    • Contact information (address, email, and phone number)

The outcome of verification will be updated in the online account of the candidate on the CBSE website. In case there is a change in marks, the first communication will be reflected online and once the marks have been recalculated and finalised, the actual increase/decrease of marks will be provided.

  3. Photocopy of the answer sheet
  4. If the candidate is not satisfied with their score even after verification of marks, then they can apply for a photocopy of the answer sheet. This will help the candidate calculate the marks on their own.

Candidates who have applied for a photocopy of the answer sheet will receive a scanned copy of the answer sheet in their online account on the CBSE website. If the candidate wishes to challenge the marks awarded, they can do so by applying for a re-evaluation of the answers.

  6. If both the methods above do not generate a desirable outcome as expected by the candidate, they have an option to have individual answers re-evaluated.

A student cannot apply for more than ten questions to re-evaluate. Re-evaluation will be done only for the theory papers. When applying for a re-evaluation, the candidate will have to refer to the marking scheme of the subject they wish the board to re-evaluate.
